Bob supports GBS SFOC activities and oversees Wet Plant Management bringing his multidisciplinary engineering and operational skills to GBS commercial and government clients for over a decade. Bob wrote the book, Submarine Cable Mechanics and Recommended Laying Procedures, which has been the Submarine Fiber Optic Cable (SFOC) industry reference for over 30 years, and he is recognized as a subject matter expert in developing, designing, testing, fault analysis, building, maintaining and upgrading SFOC systems.
Former Sr. Member of Technical Staff at Bell Laboratories, Director at Tyco/TyCom Submarine Systems, Managing Director at Sowilo/Dorsal Networks and Director at Corvis Government Solutions, Bob has been directly involved in the development, design and construction of over 40 SFOC systems around the globe as well as maintaining and upgrading countless more.
Bob received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University, MS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and over his career has been a licensed Professional Engineer and certified Program Manager. Bob has been active with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the International Cable Protection Committee (ICPC) and presented at the SubOptic Conference.
Bob is a second-generation expert in the fiber optic industry as his father was a terrestrial optical communications engineer. On nights and weekends, Bob is a jazz and concert bass/tenor trombonist and enjoys woodworking, photography, hiking and kayaking.
