Global Broadband Solutions Appoints BRAD YOWELL to Senior Vice President, CTO and Co-Owner
LEESBURG, VA (June 21, 2022) – Global Broadband Solutions (GBS), an advanced telecommunications services company headquartered in Leesburg, Virginia’s HUBZone, is pleased to announce the appointment of Brad Yowell to Senior Vice President of Operations and Administration, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), and part owner of the 24-year-old specialized engineering firm.
As Senior Vice President, Brad has responsibility for multiple functional areas, key research and development initiatives, and global Submarine Fiber Optic Cable (SFOC) system projects, including critical infrastructure for the US Government. Brad is currently engaged in an historic Desktop Study with the National Science Foundation pursuing a “SMART” (Science Monitoring and Reliable Telecommunication) Submarine Cable System that would provide increased connectivity for researchers stationed across Antarctica, New Zealand and Australia. As CTO, Brad oversees Information Technology and cybersecurity implementation, maintaining critical compliance programs for GBS.
“For the past 17 years, Brad has provided exceptional leadership and insight, helping to expand the GBS Subsea Division through the implementation of important undersea cable projects around the world. This is an exciting step for our business,” said Nicholas Koopalethes, Global Broadband Solutions CEO.
Brad brings a breadth of detailed engineering expertise for end-to-end, full life-cycle planning, installation and maintenance of terrestrial and submarine cable systems, including dark fiber and SMART Cable systems. He specializes in developing complex cable routes with intricate terrain requirements. With this appointment, Brad joins fellow GBS owners Nicholas Koopalethes, Peter Sillitto and Bruce Morris.
A longtime resident of Loudoun County, Brad holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance from James Madison University and a Master of Science in Information Systems Technology Management from George Washington University. Brad is a member of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA).
